Interior elevations of desks and shelves can look flat and uninformative without context. Adding computers, books, and lamps brings the drawing to life and, more importantly, serves a technical purpose: it helps verify electrical outlet placement relative to the equipment. Architects often struggle with this level of detail because drawing dozens of individual book spines is tedious.
Using a standard library of office accessories allows you to quickly populate shelves and desks. This highlights potential clashes, such as a computer monitor blocking a window view or a printer not fitting on a designated shelf.
Technical Guide: Best Practices for Office Accessories
These blocks are functional checks, not just decoration:
- Monitor & Cable Management: Place computer monitor blocks to ensure they don’t conflict with upper cabinets. Use these blocks to coordinate with your Electrical Plan (Category E) to ensure outlets are located *above* the desk surface but *below* the monitor height.
- Shelf Spacing: Use “Book Row” blocks on shelves to check if the shelf height is sufficient for standard binders (typically 12″ or 300mm height).
